Decker was a country singer who believed herself to be a traditional country musician in the past, was shocked to discover that the album was not promoted or focused on a mainstream audience. Decker struggled to get more control over the music she put out after her previous singles were not well received. Decker's second studio album was announced with the title Daughter of a Gypsy, or Sweet American Dreams. Mercury was able to cancel it, as three of her country singles performed poorly. She was then released.
